What is a credential evaluation?

Credential evaluation means converting a foreign academic credential into a U.S. Educational equivalent.  WECS, Inc. produces an individualized and detailed evaluation specifying its U.S. equivalent. The evaluation allows academic institutions and/or employers in the U.S. to get a better understanding of your educational background in a format that is more familiar to them. The evaluation does not guarantee that an academic institution and/or employer will necessarily accept the credentials but the evaluation is a requirement that many, if not most, academic institutions and/or employers will need to take into consideration for awarding course credit or training opportunities.

What agencies is WECS, Inc. a member of?

We are members of the organizations that most, if not all, foreign credential evaluation agencies are members of. WECS, Inc. is a member of NAFSA (Association of International Educators), AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers), accepted by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) through membership with AACRAO and ATA (American Translator’s Association) Abel Gonzalez, Assoc. Membership #228627.

Is WECS, Inc. approved or accredited by the U.S. Government?

There is no U.S. Government approval or accreditation of foreign credential evaluation services. Nor is there any approval or accreditation by any organization of foreign credential evaluation services. All foreign credential evaluation agencies are private agencies that have been accepted by a state, education agency, university, institution, etc. to do evaluations. It is up to the receiving institution/agency as to whether to accept the evaluation or reject it.

Who needs a credential evaluation?

Many companies and organizations require a credential evaluation of foreign transcripts before hiring foreign trained professionals.  A WECS credential evaluation simplifies the understanding of your foreign transcripts to a prospective employer thus increasing your chances of being hired.  It is always a good practice to check with the employer to see if a credential evaluation is required.  This will save you time and help you be better prepared for an interview. Certain visa categories require a credential evaluation in order to establish your educational level. Professional boards and agencies often require a credential evaluation. Academic institutions require credential evaluations of foreign transcripts. You should always check with the licensing/certification board or agency, company, organization, or academic institution to find out if a credential evaluation is required and by what evaluation agency.
